Humans Being Brainwashed by Technology
Over two million years ago ancient humans had to use complex hunting skills and techniques to kill off: antelopes, gazelles, wildebeest, and other large animals. Hunters were accompanied by aggressive and standing dogs. They also used bows, pipe bows, fruits, and traps to attract the animals. Wu says,“ Nowadays, we can go to our near grocery store for food”, if hungry. Wu argues that electronic devices has had a major impact and has changed the way we live rather than biological evolution. To make his point clear Wu is saying that Technology is recreating people as human beans, controlling our minds, and changing our lifestyle.Wu says, technology has made Americans lazy in our society while Nicholas Carr article “ Google Making Us Stupid? “ argues how technology has affected our ability to comprehend and concentrate reading books. Technology has changed our minds, survival skills, our and the way we think and how communicate with one another. Both Carr and Wu are credible authors, they share causes and effects of technology.
Wu's tone is educated, professional, concerned, and sarcasm . Wu sounds sarcastic when he says, " Assuming that we really are evolving as we wear or inhabit more technological prosthetics-like ever smarter phones, helpful glasses, and brainy cars- here's the big question: Will that type of evolution take us in a desirable directions, as we usually assume biological evolution does?" Wu saying that our society is trying to trick Americans by replacing biological evolution with Technology devices and making Americans think that we are evolving.
The author, Tim Wu, is a reliable source because he is a scholar of the media and technology industries, so he's educated and knowledgeable about this issue at hand.Wu also was named one of Harvard University's 100 most influential lawyer. He wrote a book called the Master Switch which was one of the best books in 2010.
Wu also says, researchers like wired founder Kevin Kelly writes a book called " Technology wants what life wants", basically saying wants to expand and grow their devices by making it everything an ordinary American need and want to survive everyday. Many Americans in this country are not active anymore and it affecting their health Wu mentioned the Oji-Cree theory , and stated, people in the nineteen-forties were educated and aware of the absence of mental mental breakdown or substance abuse because the choice of food they ate. Also Wu states, that many people thought "walked up to 100 km/day" was common. Wu also stated, that people from the 20th century used other ways to be mobile like to use "snowmobiles"verses " outboard engines" for transportation. Wu also discussed another one of Oji-Cree theory says, that because of new technology Americans has suffered from heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and it also talks about social issues regarding the new technology which is: idleness, alcoholism, suicide, and addiction is at a high rate because of technology. also uses words and phrases like “21st century” and “rugged.” In Carr article he stated how technology has made us too lazy to read a book because the internet is so convenient to find information nowadays..
In our country the new technology has affected us our health and minds. It's sad that the new generation can not focus or comprehend a book because our society has taught Americans how to skim a book rather than break it down piece by piece. Also the new technology has affected our health. Americans lack being active and excise, since we as a country waste so much time on iPods, video games, computers and cell phones. Technology has affected Americans in a terrible way and if we don't stop our bad habits there will be no future for us.
