Being Sold a Dream
These people we know as illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, undocumented workers, and person living without legal permission is a big threat to hard working people in this country. Illegal immigration is still and always have been a major issue in the United States ; we as Americans are trying to find ways to keep people from other countries out of North America. The United states is a country full of dreams and opportunity which many illegal immigrants come to America for a better life, however illegal immigrants are seen as threats to us,control our mind mentally, and created enemies and taxes revenues for our county. Americans believe that having illegal aliens here will prevent legal citizens from getting work and created competition. Most low-skilled and hard-working Americans fear that immigrants will replace them and take their jobs because they are just as a hard-working people as American, but immigrants have an advantage over a ordinary citizen, they will work long hard for less money.
We as Americans feel that living in the United States as a citizen should be earned and seen as a privilege. Many Americans think that illegal immigrants should be able to adapt and survive our culture in order to have similar privileges and rights as a citizen of the United States by law, " Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country" stated Kristof. Illegal immigrants come to the United States for jobs so that will be able to take care of their families back home. Most illegal immigrants marry citizens here in America be exposed to our lifestyle , most of them live in poverty neighborhoods and don't have the same resources and rights that Americans have as a citizens Buttock says, " there are roughly around 11 to 12 million illegal immigrants in our country. American see illegal immigrants as a burden to our country; they are limiting jobs opportunities and not growing with the business economy. Our country became very wealthy by using the monopoly method and creating new jobs for citizens to climb the cooperation ladder we we have lacked in the last five years because Americans have struggle to keep illegal immigrants out this country. President Obama mentioned that it was his duty to find all of the undocumented immigrants before it is too late, " Every day that I wait we're misallocating resources." Americans feel that it is very important that we stop illegal immigrants from trespassing and taking over our country.
Illegal immigrants can have controlled over how we think as Americans and mess up our beliefs, morals, and values. In this country we are a mixed culture and Unique people have different religions such as; Christianity, Muslims , Catholics Baptist, and Athens. Many Americans have different culture background and celebrate different traditions based off of race like American celebrate Christmas ,Halloween, and lent day. We as Americans enjoy celebrating traditions with our family, and citizens think that if too many illegal come in to this country that might change Americans think as individuals Kristof referred to the term "traditional fabric."
In our society money is the key to being able to survive in America. Many ordinary citizens in work hard to provide for their families and creating Amnesty will start a war between Americans and illegal immigrants, especially if minorities are affected by it financially. Illegal immigrants cost us 24,000 dollars a year and 5 billion dollars to find them Butowsky stated.
Immigrants help create new jobs. Kristof stated in his article that they are an "asset". It is true that most immigrants come to the United States to take jobs away from other North Americans, but some are beneficial for paying taxes. Immigrants can also prove beneficial to our military. Try to find other ways illegal aliens hurt the United States instead of money and overpopulation. They seem to be the biggest points in every argument towards immigrants. Overall, excellent use of evidence.
ReplyDeleteThe United States of America has majority of each ethnicity, race, belief, religion within the borders. Thus, any illegal immigrant who, from this time forward, enters cannot change any belief or culture America has but can only add on to it. America's culture is the accumulation of each individual race and belief. Additionally, the National Holidays America has set as a day of remembering is due to illegal immigrants who brought their beliefs from back home. Therefore, incorporating religion and belief as a con towards illegal immigrants is a difficult task to counter against illegal immigration.
ReplyDeleteYou make some legitimate claims on why immigrants should not be legalized in the United States. Yes it will cost the United States money and it will create more competition in this country, but this is a country based on competition. Presidents, students, workers, no matter who they are, they all compete to better themselves so competition is not the problem. Money is, yes it will most likely cost the United States but the point to amnesty immigrants is not just only to help them but to also gain revenue for the country. Also, you have to be more clear on how exactly do immigrants control peoples minds, because it is very difficult to understand it. One last thing immigrants have no control on peoples beliefs or religions, one can even attest that most immigrants celebrate and believe on the same beliefs and religions as citizens.
ReplyDeleteYour argument made some valid points, for example the one on how illegal immigrants can take jobs away from Americans because illegal immigrants can be hired for less money. This argument can be counter argued by stating that illegal immigrants contribute more to this country by paying taxes and fulfilling the countries need more low wage workers. Also, America was founded by illegal immigrants so stating that "Many Americans have different culture background and celebrate different traditions based off of race like American celebrate Christmas ,Halloween, and lent day." Those traditions were brought here to the United States by the illegal immigrants.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just wanted to state that your title is really creative. It really captivated my attention.
You're argument has great points. The fact that you went beyond into explaining the reason why illegal immigrants want to stay or come was excellent. American citizens who are against amnesty need to realize that illegal immigrants only want to have a better life for themselves. They do not want to take away jobs from American citizens but they will definitely do jobs that no one wants to do. The only issue in this argument is when religion is discussed. Keep in mind that religious beliefs can not be argued.

ReplyDeleteThe position in the argument is very clear and the evidence really helps with that. Using the Obama quote was also a plus because it shows that outside research was done for this paper. It is not that Americans are afraid that immigrants will control their minds mentally, Americans just really do not like changes in their traditions or what is seen as "American" culture. Americans enjoy the traditions of their country and some of them feel disrespected when foreigners attempt to incorporate their own different traditions in America. Immigrants cannot control that.
DeleteYour solution to the immigration population is underdeveloped. You make good claims on why we shouldn't let immigrants obtain amnesty but that's not a solution. That solution has been going on since the 2000's. If they are endangering our beliefs and financial stability what is the recommended action you suggest to do, other than doing nothing. However, you do begin to answer the question in the second paragraph arguing that immigrants should learn English in 5 years or go their native lands. You also state that every undocumented immigrant should be found and located. You can expand these ideas to fit the question. In paragraph 3, you contradicted yourself by stating that American citizens have many cultures and traditions. If these immigrants have different beliefs how is that going to affect our culture. You could have added a source to explain this more.
ReplyDeleteThe position you choose in the argument was clear and did provide evidence to support your reasons. You went into depth of why immigrants are hurting the United States and it is causing Americans a difficult time with finding jobs. Keep in mind that Kristof also did mention that undocumented immigrants are an asset to the U.S, they do contribute a great amount yearly in taxes.Paragraph number four needs a little more depth and evidence to help you better support your position. you did a great job on covering the negative facts of having undocumented immigrants, but try to expand your ideas more.
ReplyDeleteIn your introduction you state, "Americans are trying to find ways to keep people from other countries out of North America," maybe try not to generalize. You have to keep in mind that there are some Americans here with roots/parents that are or might've been immigrants and perhaps do not agree with your argument. Nonethless, your argument was clear and had good claims followed by good evidence. You could've mentioned the opposing view a bit more, it seemed as though all you covered was what you had to say but some people may not agree so you need to give them a taste of what their position may be. Also, your conclusion could've been better, it seemed almost unfinished because it ended very sudden.
ReplyDeleteFor starts, there are too many generalizations made In this argument. You addressed several good points, but they were weak. Too many words like "many" and "most" make your argument weak since not "all" americans/immigrants are being addressed. But other than that you made interesting points such as "Illegal immigrants can have controlled over how we think as Americans and mess up our beliefs, morals, and values. In this country we are a mixed culture and Unique people have different religions such as; Christianity, Muslims , Catholics Baptist, and Athens." but how does this make sense? If America is a nation made up of different cultures that welcomes diversity in all aspects, then having immigrants from other nations would only expand the diversity in culture rather than "come in to this country that might change Americans think as individuals" as stated in your argument.
ReplyDeleteAgreeably, undocumented immigrants should be forced to learn english but within reasonable time. Although America is seen as a country of diversity, English is still our main language, so respectfully its a good idea for illegal immigrants to be required to learn English if and when they are granted amnesty. Within 5 years sounds like a good start but more time may be needed because we must remember, even though they are illegal immigrants, they still have children to care for, jobs they majority of the time are over worked, and in general their lives to live. However, saying that illegal immigrants decrease job opportunities is untrue. the undocumented tend to go for the jobs that most Americans would not go for. The low skilled and low paid job, illegal immigrants will take because it is their only option with no education and desperation to get anything to work so they can provide for their families. Also, it was mention in paragraph 3 that Americans fear that illegal immigrants might affect their beliefs, morals, and values based off of religion and culture. But illegal immigrants are very similar to Americans because they too celebrate holidays, are family orientated, and also enjoy traditions with their families. The difference is religion but that applies to everyone who's in America since there is many different types of religion backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely no clear argument. Keeping people out of North American is irrelevant because North America is the whole continent not just the United States. It is very ignorant to state that illegal immigrants have controlled how Americans think unless there is concise evidence of such, that is actually not presented in this blog. Hence, amnesty is the best solution to legalize millions of people in the country. Not only do they already live here and work hard to contribute to the economy, but they are human beings who have only committed the crime of perusing a better live in a country that promises that an much more.
ReplyDeleteImmigrants come to the United States to work and give a better future to their families, they come from countries with high levels of violence and corruption. The blog gives a sense of "immigrant invasion" but the United States is a country of immigrants, a great percentage of Americans came from immigrant descendants; Native Americans are the real Americans. Also, was mentioned that people that came here usually work for long hours, now the thing is, if they work several hours a day, in many cases ten to twelve hours, how they are going to make time to go to English classes? The necessities of every family are different, maybe the immigrant adults are not learning the language but, the are working hard so that their children can go to school and learn the English language.
